24th Marmaris Yacht Festival

“An Incredible Amount Of Fun”

A total of 43 Yachts are registered in this year’s Festival. They all seem to be of different weights and draughts so the the IRC Handicapping Rules are applied.

The Marmaris Yacht Festival began as an informal get together: in 1980, three sailing yachts invited a small number of Yacht Charter Agents to join them for a short cruise along the Turkish Coast. With none of the pomp and snobbery to be found at The Royal Yacht Squadron, they had an incredible amount of fun.

And so word got out that the Turkish Coast was a very unique and beautiful cruising ground. Prompted by the heightened level of interest in the destination, the pioneers of the Turkish yacht charter industry, Jillian and Jim Anderson (owner/operators of S/Y MOANA VAHINE) thought a slightly more formal gathering of yachts and agents might be desirable.

May of 1981 saw the launching of the Marmaris Yacht Festival which has become an annual event in which Yacht Charter Agents and Brokers from around the world were given an opportunity to see the “Turkish Fleet” of charter yachts, meet their crew and familiarize themselves with the area.
