As Damla Arrives, Phillip Departs!

Ortaköy ~ Istanbul, in October Maybe?

Damla will arrive in Amos late tonight ~ tee hee, plenty of fine Martinis for the winter months. Hurray!

But she will not, after all, be sharing them with Phillip this October when he is due to return to Turkey with his family. In an exclusive e-mail to PebblesFromParadise.COM he writes:

“The girls return to school this coming Monday and we’ve only had to juggle a few days, but we’ve now made plans to cover the October half term, we are returning to Turkey, but not to Amos, as we have decided to spend a week in Istanbul.

The girls have heard so much about Istanbul from our friends, that we’ve had to plan an educational visit, visiting all the tourist spots and meeting up with the Amos/Istanbul crowd, as we promised to do last week.”

Phillip, and family,  will be missed here. We strongly advise that they take warm underwear to Istanbul, where today it’s raining as heavily as in the UK. Many Europeans imagine that Turkey is a uniformly hot country throughout the year, but I can honestly say that I saw more snow during the two years I lived in Istanbul that in the previous ten years I lived in the UK.

Nevertheless, Istanbul is a beautiful city, and perhaps my favourite? It’s not surprising that it was once said that there are just two truly beautiful cities in the world: Paris, which was made by man, and Istanbul, that was made by God. Much of Istanbul is glass and concrete now, but I can still appreciate how the saying came to pass.
