Photography: Olympus E-3, 3200 ISO

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Olympus E-3, 3200 ISO, Carl Zeiss Flektogon 35mm at F4.0 I’m trying to keep the techy, camera hype, posts down but this image doesn’t really fit under any other category. I shot it at night on the bus from Istanbul back to Marmaris recently. If you look carefully you can discern some colour in the [...]

Turunc: Another shot from Paradise Pide

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

Paradise Pide benefits from that wonderfully painterly North facing light beloved by artists, so most photographs come out well when taken there. The food is good value too.

Photography: Light and Shade, Moments in Time.

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Jane Bown likes to photograph her subjects by windowlight. The Kodak sensor in the Olympus E-400 produces wonderful
subtle colours straight from in-camera .jpgs.

Turkish Culture ~ Drinking Fountains.

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

This water fountain sits on a quiet road high above Turunc. There are many such points throughout Turkey where anyone may obtain free drinking water from natural springs. It’s common for a benefactor to either commission a tap, or trough, or perhaps for their family to create such a point as a memorial.

Photography: Getting Into The Christmas Spirit

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Beware the whiteness is simply overexposure, for outside there is a dull concrete street and not a snowflake in sight. It’s true she sports a polar neck jumper even though the temperature is around 17° Centigrade. As for the Christmas ambiance, its just the normal decorations of a Turkish restaurant inMarmaris, but thrown out of focus by using a wide aperture.

Using a wide portrait lens and monochrome media can make a poor photographic context into a great one.

The Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 35mm is a fine lens for digital photography.

Photography: Tips From New York

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Dave Beckerman from www.nyc-photo-lessons.com writes: “Do not force yourself to take pictures of obviously dangerous people. They exist. If you are comfortable with your street skills and have been doing this for a while – and you think the shot is worth the potential danger – then by all means. But not in the beginning.”

Photography: Carl Zeiss Jena 35mm 2.4 lens for Macro Photography

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

The Flektogon 35mm will focus down to just a few cms. You can actually get closer to your subject with it than with a Zuiko 50mm Macro and the results are very fine indeed.

Photography: Another Olympus E-3 Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon Image

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

There is something about the Carl Zeiss 35mm Flektogon that lends itself to digital imaging, although this wasn’t the purpose for which it was originally designed.

Kumlubuk: A New Image

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Yachts at Kumlubuk Some of my regular visitors are complaining that there’s been few posts recently. The fact is I’m busy on many projects but I did manage to catch this image recently when beachcombing at Kumlubük.

A Photograph, Here, At Last !

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

It’s been some months since I had a chance to post here because my time has been taken up studying Internet marketing. That’s been a huge learning curve partly enjoyable, mainly labour, but now at last most of the ‘grunt work’ seems over and I’m showing some small reward for all my effort. Today I [...]

Turunc: Amazon’s School Photo

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

It’s that time of the year. Amazon is shortly to break-up from school for a two week break. This means she will get her half-year report and since anything official in Turkey requires the submission of at least two photos I’ve made her a new passport image for her school report Olympus E-3, Flektogon f35 [...]

Amos: Amazing Stormy Sky

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

We’ve been confined to quarters for most of the day because of torrential rain. Late this afternoon though I was able to get out for a few minutes. The sky was amazing, as you can see. Olympus E-3, Flektogon f35

Kumlubuk: Sunny Weather

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

I find taking photographs helps me to really see things better! It’s like an Indian Summer here at Amos. Occasionally we have a storm, but mostly the sun shines. We got out to Kumlubük today and I shot some images with the Olympus E-3 and Flektogon f35 combination. I like the way this lens resolves [...]

Photography: The LAB Colour Space

Friday, December 5th, 2008

Kumlubük, E-3, Flektogon f35 I’ve only just discovered this colour space in Adobe Photoshop, although it has apparently been there for ever. It has just three channels, Lightness, and a and b. To quote from Wikipedia: “Unlike the RGB and CMYK colour models, Lab color is designed to approximate human vision. It aspires to perceptual [...]

Kumlubuk: The Old Boat

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Every year I come along and photograph how the weather is slowly destroying this old boat and returning it to nature. This image isn’t really a duo-tone because the colour is concentrated on just the boat ~ I suppose you might think of it as a ‘colour pop’ except there’s little ‘pop’, or even ‘fizz’ [...]

Kumlubuk: Wonderful Winter Light

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Irem and I spent an hour, or so, walking around Kumlubük this morning. The light has an incredible quality to it and I shot a few frames with the Flektogon 2.4 on the Olympus E-3. Some people knock this lens because when it was released it was aimed at owners of the Practica series of [...]

Photography ~ Olympus E-3 and Flektogon 2.4 f35mm

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Amazon loves lipstick! A capture made using the Olympus E-3 set to portrait mode. The Flektogon was wide open. This is an in-camera .jpg made with the ‘Portrait’ curves setting. It’s not been altered in Photoshop, except to be re-sized.

Photography: Flektogon M42~35mm, 2.4 on Olympus E-3

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

This lens really feels very different to handle than my OM Zuikos. It could be the weather, which currently is quite changeable, but it seems to require a different metering technique too. Images seem to look their best with around two stops less exposure compensation dialled in. The .jpgs straight from the camera then come [...]

Photography: Flektogon M42~35mm, 2.4 on Olympus E-3

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

Whenever I get a new piece of kit I always do my best to test it to its limits. In this way I usually get a not too perfect result that highlights all the weaknesses in the product. Take this f35mm Flektogon 2.4, which was built by Carl Zeiss Jena for 35mm film cameras with [...]
