Dereozu ~ Exploratory Manganese Works

The plan is to turn this . . .

For those who don’t know Dereözü is a sleepy little hamlet in the hills behind Turunç. It is densely forested and the area is rich in wildlife. Bees migrate here during the warmer months. In the winter villagers hunt Kara Tavuk, and their wives tend to their families and herd goats.

Until recently few had heard of  Dereözü but that all changed when permission was given for an exploratory site to be opened to investigate the mining of manganese. Indeed licences are proposed for forty sites, and these are proposed as be full strip mining enterprises, rather than the exploratory working pictured here.

The matter is currently awaiting adjudication in court, since the licences may well have been granted illegally.

. . . into this, or maybe . . .

. . . this . . .

and this.

Remember, what’s photographed here isn’t a fully working operation. It’s just the exploratory dig?

More to come
