Marmaris: Tourist Destinations

Gully Jimson could have painted this.

Before my readers challenge your learned diarist by stating that all entries seem to be photographs of his ‘chickadees’ I decided to provide some travelogue for those surfing this web site in search of tourist destinations.

Here is the electricity sub-station situated in the car park to Tespo, which is perhaps Marmaris’ most popular cash and carry. Amazon was asleep in the car, and Irem was inside Tespo stocking up on booze and sanitary protection so I took a moment to photograph this landmark just for you.

It has to be said that the average electricity sub-station in Turkey is an unsightly affair enclosed in a small brick house that seems to have been designed by a military architect. The one at Tespos’s car-park is no exception but it has been painted with an historic mural in an attempt to disguise it.

On one side there is a view of Marmaris from the sea, on the other sides are depicted mythical beings set against maritime storms.

Sadly the storms have taken their toll on the mural as the paint is now peeling almost as badly as it did from Phillips house at Amos the year he painted it himself.

The paint is flaking – soon the mural will be no more!
