Photography Marmaris: More Mr Bean Than Hugo Burnand
Hugo Burnand is well known as a Royal Photographer in the U.K. He also frequently takes society party images for the Bystander section of Tatler.
It was perhaps with him in mind that I took the E-3 along to Çağdaş’ and Esra’s office party at Ecotasarim, Marmaris. I anticipated taking lots of glowing pictures of women in tiaras and frocks gazing admiringly into the eyes of their paramours.
Unfortunately it wasn’t quite that sort of party, although it proved to be good fun.
The high spot of the evening occurred as I was ‘chatting up’ a freelance translator who has connections with National Geographic Magazine.
As we talked I sensed a slight aroma of burning and then became aware of flames behind me. The E-3 casually slung from my shoulder had knocked into one of the nightlights that were ‘sensitively’ illuminating the room.
“Ahhhh”, I yelled in dismay, whilst examining the bottom of my camera for the source of the dripping, burning plastic that was creating small pools of fire everywhere.
But it wasn’t the camera that was afire but a plastic plate that the camera had knocked on to it.
Fortunately the young lady, to whom I had been talking, took action and whisked it away under the sink. Then our hostess came along and spent a good ten minutes scraping away bits of burnt plastic from the furniture.
All this rather put a lid on the Burnand style pictures, what with people hiding as they saw me coming.
Hence these images, which perhaps owe more to the voyeristic style of Helmut Newton, are the sole photographic evidence of the party!

Irem can’t quite believe her hubby set fire to Esra’s Office!

Two lads playing with Çağdaş’ Photoshop when he’s not looking!

Finally Çağdaş catches them and tells them how it’s done.

A good story that has made me laugh on this wintery evening – sounds like something that would happen to me!

Yes it is a good yarn but it
pales into insignificance beside
the adventures of Vaughan Purvis,
who is an explorer like yourself.
