More TurkCell Trouble
For several days my mobile phone has been ‘peeping’. This means that it has received a message. Normally I don’t take any notice of messages. Usually they come from my carrier TurkCell who are trying to sell me a new tariff or promotion.
This time however the Country is in uproar about TurkCell’s messages. They claim that some mobile phones using the network are not ‘legal’. No one seems to understand exactly what ‘legal’ means, nor how TurkCell have reached this conclusion. Their web site says little, or nothing, and their sales support has vanished under a deluge of inquiries.
TurkCell however have taken it upon themselves to remedy the illegality of these cell-phone by charging owners 5 YTL for each phone!
Since TurkCell control the access to mobile lines there’s nothing anyone can do about the problem.
The trouble is that Irem’s telephone has been beeping almost constantly since the process started, and it’s unclear to me how many 5 YTLs she is to be charged?
But I await January’s bill with some trepidation!

[...] It’s now January and the TurkCell bill has arrived. After carefully scrutinizing it I can detect absolutely no charges for either of our ‘illegal’ cell-phones. [...]
