Turkish Culture ~ Drinking Fountains.

Drinking Water for Free
I came upon this drinking water point on a quiet road high above Turunc. It bears the inscription ALI RIZA ZEYBEK, HATICE ZEYBEK and the date 1998. There are many such points throughout Turkey where anyone may obtain free drinking water from natural springs.
It’s also common for a benefactor to either commission a tap, or trough, or perhaps for their family to create such a point as a memorial.
My usual criteria for an image is that it must work in monochrome before I will entertain it in colour. The exceptions are a few graphic images that I will have taken specifically because of the colours. These are usually abstract.
This image reminded me, somewhat, of Jane Bown’s early work, so I took it as part of this week’s theme. She would have taken it in black and white, but there was a lovely sense of decay in the colours as I saw them yesterday morning.
