Visiting Istanbul isn’t just about having a break and visiting Granny, it also involves some practical shopping. And what more practical place to do it than the huge Carrefour complex at Ümraniye.

This place is like B and Q on steroids. All manner of tools and appliances are to be found here including a huge super-store that includes a food market. For Granny it’s enough that there is a Starbucks!

Amazon prefers the children’s indoor fun-fare. Her particular favourite is this small boating lake. It is perhaps Irem’s preferred activity too. For me though it’s just enough to watch them playing in this wonderful world:

I snapped these images with the faithful Fuji FinePix E900 after first setting the white-balance for flourescent lighting. Had I not done so these pictures would have undoubtedly had a green colour cast.
